UPDATE September 2020:
Last year the jacket started to deteriorate. Most of the seam seal tapes on the inside of the jacket started to come off. Needless to say the jacket is no longer usable as a rain jacket.

To my surprise, even after so many years and without an original receipt, the local Macpac store outside of Sydney sent the jacket to Victoria for testing. The team there said results indicated a manufacturing fault as the seam tapes should have never come off. They credited me close to 300$ towards a new jacket. How good is that for customer support!

Review:
This jacket was a life saver when I bought it in a Macpac store during a really wet holiday in New Zealand. Fairly heavy duty, this jacket is primarily suited for hiking type activities. It has a large hood, which is unfortunately not detachable but it does provide good protection in heavy rain. The jacket kept me dry for most of a whole day walking in heavy rain, so quite happy with its performance so far.

Pros:
- Excellent wet weather and wind protection
- Large, protective hood
- Can be zipped up quite high to protect your neck all around
- Durable fabric that makes it a good jacket to wear with a hiking backpack

Cons:
- Hood can sometimes be a bit annoying as it is hard to keep in place without covering your eyes at times

Comment:
Definitely a good purchase and I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a solid GoreTex jacket that doesn't come with a hefty price tag like many others.
