Review:
Pretty much everyone from our regular abseiling/canyoning crew wears generic work/gardening gloves from Bunnings or similar hardware stores. There are plenty of choices with all sorts of thickness and protective features, all for relatively cheap prices. Depending on how frequently you head out for abseiling or canyoning, a pair of gloves usually lasts about 15-20 trips. The main benefit of these gloves is the low price point compared to purpose built abseiling gloves.
Pros:
- Relatively cheap to buy
- Lots of variety and options in that category of gloves
- Very comfortable, can be worn all day
- Thick enough for good protection, yet thing enough to be able to handle rope equipment without having to take the gloves off
Cons:
- Durability is not outstanding, especially when used for canyoning. This is primarily due to the comfortable but relatively thin leather or fabric on the hands. If used only for canyoning we usually go through 2 pairs per season (this is assuming you use the thinner fabric that allows equipment handling with the glove on).
Comment:
Would recommend those type of gloves to anyone who needs gloves to do the job but doesn't want to spend more than $30-40AUD on it. They do the job well, there is no need to spend more money on this item for recreational use.
