Primary Use: Hiking, Camping
Update February 2021: While I have not used the larger pot much as I’m usually hiking as light and with a small pack as possible, I still frequently use the smaller pot and lid. After all these years its still going strong and I have even cooked with that pot directly over charcoal on campfires in the bush. A really good piece of cooking equipment. Just make sure you NEVER put these pots into the dishwasher. It will ruin the non-stick type coating!!
Review:
Picked up this pot set on a trip in New Zealand at the local Macpac store. This is a great pot set if you need more than just one pot and pan. Its big enough to cook a decent meal for two people or suitable if two of you want to cook separate things. Although not a true non-stick pot, the surface is a kind of non-stick and is fairly easy to clean compared to traditional aluminium crookery. Several manufacturers pro due very similar pots and pans now, so it doesn't have to be Macpac. Quality is great, used it on most of my trips since many years and they are still as new.
Pros:
- Non-Stick type surface
- Durable
- Fairly light for 2 pans and 2 pots
Cons:
- The heat isolating rubber on the handles could be a bit thicker or heat resistance. On some occasions where the wind blows the flame a bit towards the side of the pot, the handles can get hot and the rubber starts melting if you are not careful. That can usually be avoided by turning the pot in the other direction to keep the heat away from the handle.
Comment:
Great pot set with 2 pans and 2 pots that can be consolidated into a nice single pack. Weight is fine but probably too large and heavy if you are on a multi-day solo hiking trip where you just want to bring the essentials (for that I would prefer the Jetboil Flash system).
